Review: Tarte LipSurgence Hydrating Lip Creme Trio

by Jen on June 19, 2012

I ordered this set (A221868) from QVC as a One Time Only at the end of May; I wasn’t quick enough to pull the trigger when they were first offered so I had to go on waitlist. I got them a few days ago and I’m so glad I did–these LipSurgence Lip Cremes are fantastic! The set includes three full size pencils in Admired, Carefree, and Loved.

Admired is a pretty berry mauve color, but not too dark. It reminds me of my favorite LipSurgence Lip Stain, Moody, but it isn’t as dark or as intense.

Carefree is a dusty pink and the palest of the three; you might need to layer it on a bit more heavily if you’re looking for a lot of color on your lips.

Loved is my least favorite of the three, a warm coral-red that is pretty–I just lean toward the cooler part of the spectrum. I think it’s still pretty wearable even for cooler-toned gals, it just might require some layering with other shades.

These Lip Cremes are a little different from the regular LipSurgence lip stains–they generally lay down a bit more color and while still sheer, are more buildable so you can get a more lipstick-like effect on your lips. They’re shiny in a good way (I’m NOT a fan of the super wet/slick look) and catch the light appropriately without being too much. They’re still super long-wearing too, so you shouldn’t have to worry about constant reapplication. They also have the same no-sharpening-required,twist-up packaging that I love.

I don’t usually review products that aren’t available any longer (the set is currently sold out on QVC), but I am hopeful that it will become available at some point in the future, or that these colors show up for individual purchase from Tarte, Sephora, or some other vendor. My particular favorites are Admired and Carefree, since they’re unlike any of the other LipSurgence pencils I have (and I have a lot of them). They’re the one lip product I reach for on an almost daily basis because they’re quick to apply, easy to wear, and do a fantastic job of moisturizing my lips. What more could a girl want?
