Review: A Toast to Tints

by Jen on December 21, 2011

One of the newest products from Bare Escentuals is A Toast to Tints, a three piece set of hydrating lip tints that premiered during Leslie’s last appearance on QVC. The tints represent a new concept for the company; they’re not standard glosses, they’re not lipsticks, and they’re not balms. But they are most definitely awesome in their own way.

The best description I’ve been able to come up with is that they’re like a sheer, thin (but not runny!) lip gloss, though they don’t feel exactly like a gloss on the lips. There’s a doe foot applicator inside the tube, and when you apply it’s best to wipe a little of the excess off against the side of the tube as you’re pulling out the applicator. Otherwise it’s a little too easy to put on too much of this product if you’re not careful.

The feeling of hydration is simply amazing, and it really lasts! The same is true of the color, which will last even through drinking and eating. What does wear off relatively quickly is the shine, as the hydrating ingredients soak into your lips. There’s no particular┬átaste or smell that I can discern, and I’m pretty sensitive to that sort of thing.

The set comes with three colors, Juicy (pinky-red), Quench (a deep berry), and Splash (coral). Quench is definitely my favorite of the three, but I would consider that all of the colors are wearable for just about anyone–the idea here is a natural hint of color, nothing as obvious as a hot pink gloss or Hollywood red lipstick. Remember that they are rather sheer, so don’t let the deep colors visible in the tube scare you away before you try them.

A Toast to Tints ($28) is currently a QVC exclusive product, and one I highly recommend for anyone looking for a long lasting but natural pop of color for the lips. The hydration and the staying power of the color are better than a tinted balm, and they’re perfect for those days when you don’t want to wear standard lipstick or lip gloss. I hope that they become more widely available in the near future.
