BE 101: How to Choose the Perfect Brush

by Jen on April 13, 2011

There’s lots of great information on the Bare Escentuals web site, from tips and tricks to step-by-step instructions on how to achieve a variety of looks, some with videos. I just learned this morning about a couple of resources designed to help you choose exactly the right brush–sometimes it’s easy to forget that the tools are just as important as the products you’re using with them. If you want full coverage on your foundation, but you’re using the wrong brush, for example, you won’t get the effect that you need and might blame the foundation when it doesn’t come out right.

The first is the Face Brush Glossary, which covers eighteen different blush and foundation brushes, with photos and descriptions of each one. There are also artist tips and information about the materials used to make each brush–that’s perfect for vegans and others who are avoiding animal products, since many BE brushes are made of goat hair. With the glossary, you can find the synthetic brushes that meet your needs.

There is also a similar Eye Brush Glossary that offers the same information on twenty different shadow and liner brushes, including the double-ended brushes. I learned a great deal on this page, which impressed me because I watch every BE show on QVC and read every tip card and forum post I can find!  My favorite tip was to use the Heavenly Shadow brush to blend out color as well as to apply it, assuring that my eye looks will always be fabulous, without any hard edges between the colors.

When you visit the two glossary pages you’ll also find lots of links on the top right side of the page. There are 35 different eye looks pictured, with step-by-step instructions and downloadable PDF face charts! No matter your level of expertise, you’re sure to learn something new.

Thanks to Kesha, the Alaskan Angel, for the tip!
